Good Shepherd Center

The mission of Good Shepherd Center is to feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, and foster transition to housing. Founded in 1983 as a small Soup Kitchen, Good Shepherd has grown into the largest provider of homeless services in southeastern North Carolina. Today, we provide nutritious meals through our Soup Kitchen and Second Helpings food rescue program, emergency day and overnight shelter for men, women, and families, supportive services that help individuals overcome barriers to housing, and four housing communities that provide transitional and permanent supportive housing for Veterans, adults with disabilities, seniors, and individuals experiencing chronic homelessness.

Good Shepherd meets the needs of our neighbors through a continuum of services that address hunger, homelessness, and the transition to stable housing. Soup Kitchen Serves nutritious breakfast, lunch, and dinner to individuals and families experiencing hunger. Second Helpings Food Rescue Recovers surplus food from local grocery partners and distributes it through meal services, Grocery Giveaway, and other community food assistance programs. Emergency Shelter Provides safe overnight shelter for men, women, and families with children experiencing homelessness. Day Shelter Offers showers, laundry facilities, clothing, mail services, case management, and connections to healthcare, mental health services, and community resources. Housing-Focused Case Management Works alongside individuals to overcome barriers, access benefits, secure income, and achieve permanent housing. Housing Programs Sgt. Eugene Ashley Center – Transitional and permanent supportive housing for Veterans and men with disabilities. SECU Lakeside Reserve – Permanent supportive housing for chronically homeless adults with disabilities, including seniors and Veterans. SECU The Sparrow – Permanent supportive housing with wraparound supportive services for chronically homeless adults with disabilities. Driftwood Apartments – Permanent supportive housing that helps residents maintain long-term housing stability for chronically homeless adults with disabilities. Together, these programs provide immediate relief while creating lasting pathways from homelessness to housing.
