ABOUT THIS ROLE
The Treasurer is VLL's fiscal health and integrity officer. You don't manage the day-to-day bookkeeping — but you do make sure the financial infrastructure is sound, the board understands the numbers, and the organization meets every compliance requirement. In a founding-stage nonprofit, this role also means helping build the financial systems from scratch.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Work with VLL's financial staff or bookkeeper on all fiscal matters
Develop and monitor the annual operating budget
Present financial statements at every board meeting in a format the full board can understand
Ensure compliance with all tax filing requirements, including Form 990
Oversee the annual audit or financial review process
Monitor internal financial controls and banking relationships
Guide reserve fund and capital management policy
Advise on grant financial reporting requirements
WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
CPA, CFO, controller, banker, or financial executive
Nonprofit financial experience helpful
Able to read, interpret, and present financials to a non-finance audience
Familiar with Form 990 and grant financial reporting requirements
Detail-oriented, reliable, and process-minded
No conflicts with VLL's banking relationships or vendors
Has lived and worked in New Hanover County for at least 5-10 years
